Hot Wheels Sauna is a mobile, wood-fired barrel sauna based in Biarritz, France, created to bring heat, contrast, and connection into natural and social spaces across the Pays Basque and Landes.
Rooted in Nordic sauna tradition and shaped by life on the Atlantic coast, Hot Wheels Sauna was born from a desire for something slower, more elemental, and more human than conventional spa culture. No fluorescent lights. No background music. No rush. Just fire, water, wood, and time.
This is sauna as an experience, not a treatment.
A sauna that comes to you
Unlike fixed wellness spaces, Hot Wheels Sauna is designed to move. It can be parked by the ocean, beside a pool, in a garden, at a retreat, or at a gathering. From May onward, the sauna will tour across the Basque Coast and the Landes, appearing at select locations, private homes, events, and pop-ups.
For now, Hot Wheels Sauna is parked at Kaliko in Bidart, next to their pool, which serves as a cold plunge. While there, guests have access to a cold shower, changing room and toilet, filtered drinking water, and the option to enjoy food or drinks before or after their session.
Why wood-fired?
The sauna is heated entirely by fire. No electricity. No artificial heat. Just a wood stove, rising temperature, and soft, enveloping löyly.
Wood-fired heat is slower, deeper, and more forgiving. It invites presence. It encourages conversation, silence, and shared ritual. It pairs naturally with cold exposure — whether that’s a plunge pool, cold shower, or the Atlantic air itself.
Inspired by the Basque coast
Surf culture, recovery, weather, effort, rest — these rhythms are part of daily life here. Hot Wheels Sauna is shaped by that landscape and mindset: a place to warm the body after the ocean, to reset the nervous system, to gather with friends, or to simply do nothing for a while.
